Farms Network Aims to Demonstrate Innovative Water Conservation Systems
The newly announced Blanchard River Demonstration Farms Network, located in the Western Lake Erie Basin, will showcase and demonstrate leading edge conservation practices to improve Great Lakes water quality. The first of its kind in Ohio, the farm network is a result of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative’s commitment to advance protection and restoration of the Great Lakes. The Blanchard River Demonstration Farm Network is five-year, $1 million project through a combined effort of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF).
Within the Blanchard River Watershed, a network of farms will demonstrate standard and innovative conservation systems to reduce phosphorus and sediment entering the Western Basin of Lake Erie. Sites are located in Hardin and Hancock counties, including Stateler Family Farms, Kurt Farm and Kellogg Farms.
